WHAT IS THERAPY?

Talk-therapy has a long history of supporting people to move towards improved psychological wellbeing through a collaborative relationship, combined with psychological knowledge and practices. From a cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) perspective  this typically involves supporting clients to  examine and modify patterns of thinking, feeling and behavior. Examples of commonly addressed concerns include depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, stress, and other life challenges.

Therapy sessions usually last around one hour, with the initial session focusing more on the therapist asking questions to better understand the clients needs and goals.

Following the end of the first session the therapist will usually be able to suggest a basic plan for further sessions, or alternatively discuss other options that may better suit the client.

As therapy is a collaborative relationship, it is particularly important that the client feels that the therapist is a good fit for their needs.

“I have learned now that while those who speak about one's miseries usually hurt, those who keep silence hurt more.”
― C. S. Lewis
